Some think he's an urban legend, but The Lone Ho is real and playing the Trombone with Stone Pony. When quizzed about the origin of the bizarre nickname, he just starts twitching and mumbles something about sax-biased drummers.
Darrin Clark started playing the Trombone more than 20 years ago. He received formal music training at the Armed Forces School of Music after signing away 4 years of his young life to play with the US Marine Corps Band. Upon completion of training, he was assigned to the Quantico Marine Band, based just south of Washington DC. During his years there he played for audiences as large as 40,000 people, some including US Presidents, Foreign Dignitaries, and celebrities. Since his discharge from the Marines, he has played with several groups, from brass ensembles to concert bands. "There aren't nearly enough drunk people at a concert in the park" he recalls.
Even a Ho has to pay the bills, and Darrin does it as a Salesman for an oil testing lab. He whiles away his days dealing with steel mills, power plants, chemical plants, and manufacturing plants, helping them solve their lubrication problems. "It's pretty slick", he says.
Besides music and work, Darrin is a race fan(atic). If Stone Pony isn't playing on a Saturday Night, you can bet he is at a local track eating junk food and screaming his fool head off. "You aren't a real race fan unless you have dirt in your beer".
Darrin lives in Madison with his Wife Jo Ann and Son Richard. Jo Ann is Stone Pony's biggest fan. Richard is more into half pipes and tail grabs (it's skateboard talk, ask you kids or click here to see Richard getting some major air!!!).
"Be sure and say Hello at our next gig, I'll be the tall one with the big Bone".
