Hi there!! I'm the bass player and new kid on the block. No, not a short, pre-pubescent boy singing and dancing, but the new guy around here, with this core of band member s who have known each other for years. I come to Stone Pony by way of a business relationship with Kelly Derrick, the singer. Back when I was a big thief, err ...uh...um, I mean F & I Manager in the auto business, I met Kelly. We soon found out we were both musicians, but we were playing slightly different styles of music. He was doing the MSB thing, and I was playing, well, shall we say, the Spandex and Glamour music of the day. And no, I will not show you the spandex pictures - so don't ask!!! Anyway, Kelly and I would go see each other's band play every now and then, and that's when we created what we called, "The Hootie Challenge". We would trade off singing verses of "I Only Want to be With You," by Hootie and the Blowfish, to see who sounded more like Hootie. He usually won, depending on the amount of Jaeger that was consumed prior to the performance.
I was then, playing with the band STREETLIFE!!! I was with them for 9 years playing the same club circuit as all my new band mates. I ran into Kelly at the end of 2002 at one of his shows, and busted his chops for not calling me when he needed a new bass player for Stagepass or Festivus. He got the message and called me when he was putting together Stone Pony and here we are today.
During daylight hours, I am a computer geek for an company that distributes housewares for all the major retailers (fancy geek talk for selling toasters) When I'm not working or playing out, I enjoy going to Vegas with my wife of 22 years, Traci. I hope to one day be a famous (or is that infamous?) blackjack dealer in Vegas, while my wife works as a glamorous change lady in the same casino. Can you say, "Quickie on the craps table?" Also, I would like to play in the World Series of Poker one day - there's only one problem - anybody got $10,000 I can borrow?
I reside in Wickliffe with my aforementioned wife, Traci, my 21-year old daughter, Amber, 19-year old son, Vic, both of whom now play with me in a new band called Bow Legged Monkey a 12 piece horn funk band.and our 120 lb Rotweiller , Bruno (named after the character from The Godfather). I have been in this city all of my life because "every time I try to leave, they pull me back in!!"
Remember, "Sometimes when you're playing at third base, you have to take a hit for the table". (it's a Blackjack thing)
